What To Wear To The Horse Races

07.25.19Fashion6

The absolute number one question I get is what to wear to the horse races. By now I think I am pretty qualified to answer this question since I spend most of the weekends at the race track.

I love dressing up, and the horse races is the perfect place to do it. I spend the majority of my weekends at the race track and find race track fashion very fun! There’s really no rules when it come to fashion at the races besides showing your personality and having fun with your outfit. However, I put together 5 race track looks that will make you the best dressed at the track.

Pastel dress, fascinator, and heels

DRESS: Revolve FASCINATOR: Dillards SHOES: Old from Steven Madden but similar here, and here BAG: Vineyard Vines but similar here, here, and here.

If you are going to the track on a big day in horse racing, like the Kentucky Derby, Breeders Cup, or Arlington Million, then you want to be sure you are sporting a hat or a fascinator. You will feel left out without one. This was my Derby Day look from this May. This is a great option if you want to really dress to the nines while you are at the races. However hats are not just worn on big days, if you’ve never been to the races and want to sport a fascinator then you do that! You will still look amazing and fit right in! I love pastel colors for the summer, especially for big race days. You want to stand out with your look. I think a fun color piece is a way better option than a simple black dress any day.

Floral Jumpsuit and sandals

JUMPSUIT: Shein SANDALS: Aldo

I have never had a piece of clothing that I get more compliments on than this floral jumpsuit. The color, the fit, it is all amazing, but the best part is that it is only $22!! This is a great summer piece in my wardrobe. I love a jumpsuit for the races. They are sophisticated, fashionable, and just like wearing fancy pajamas. I think jumpsuits look polished, and with a few accessories, makes a complete look. For my fellow shorties who are reading, I have found that a cropped jumpsuit looks so much better than a full length one. I think sometimes the full length wide pant does not look flattering on my little frame, so I lean towards a cropped wide leg or a fitted full length leg.

Romper, straw hat, and statement earrings

ROMPER: Hemline HAT: Nordstrom EARRINGS: Bauble Bar SANDALS: Aldo PURSE Kate Spade

This is probably one of my favorite looks I have put together. You saw it on my Instagram already because I just couldn’t wait to share it. First of all let’s talk about the romper – it is the most perfect shade of pink. The big bow detailing adds a feminine touch. A romper is a great choice for the races. They are cute and comfy, and will keep you cool on a hot summer day. I wear a straw hat probably once a week to the races in the summer. They keep your face cool and in the shade, and I feel they give a great horse racing vibe. You don’t need a huge elaborate hat every time you go to the races – a straw hat is a great option. Lastly, I just need to mention these earrings because they are my favorite things ever. The beaded flamingos are too adorable!

Jeans, blouse, mules, and hat

HAT: Anthropologie TOP: Old from H&M similar here and here JEANS: Old from 7 From All Man Kind SHOES: ALDO BAG: AMAZON

Don’t think you have to wear a dress or something fancy whenever you go to the races. If dresses and rompers aren’t your thing, you can totally wear pants or shorts to watch the ponies. If I am wearing jeans to the races I like to try to dress them up a little bit. I paired these dark skinnies with a striped collar blouse. I added a white hat to pull the look together. This white hat is a staple in my wardrobe and think it adds a polished touch to any look. If I wear jeans I usually try to wear a nicer shoe as well. I wore a heeled pair of mules with this look to elongate my legs. But flat sandals would have worked just as well.

Romper, hair scarf, and scalloped sandals

ROMPER: old Abercrombie, but similar here HAIR SCARF: Madewell SANDALS: Tj Maxx, but similar here and here BAG: Amazon

Another more casual look for the races. This off the shoulder romper is super comfy and breezy for a hot summer night at the races. Black is always a staple if you are not a color fan. I rarely wear black, nothing against it, I just prefer to wear colors. I added a hair scarf to keep my hair tame in the humidity. I simply just tied the hair scarf around my head and in a knot to give it a headband feel. I am all about the hair accessories. They give me all the Blair Waldorf vibes, anyone else?

Fashion is one of my favorite parts about going to the horse races. Being able to dress up is always a plus in my book. The races are the perfect place to do it. I would highly recommend trying to go to the races at least once in your life. The horses, the people, the fashion, and the atmosphere just makes for a great time! To my Chicago friends – Arlington International Racecourse will be open through September 23rd. They have a ton of fun events, and I would love to see some of y’all out there!

Love your style & colors! Please help out the 70 year young crowd .
Need a three quarter sleeves top to try & hid the underarms I’m forever working out. Pants or below the knees would work nicely. The shoes are a must be low & nothing between the toes due to health issues. I have a round face & dark brown hair brown eyes. I refuse to give in to the age thing it’s a number that’s all. Please consider my request I’m so tired of trying to find attractive & comfortable clothes.
    Sincerely a fan

[…] Fashion at the races is one of my favorite topics. Even though I have not been able to attend the races in person this summer, I have all of my race day outfit picked out and ready to go! Fingers crossed I can wear some of them during the Keeneland fall meet in October. […]
