What I Read In July

08.06.20Books, Lifestyle6

I am back at it again with my second post in my monthly series “What I Read In ______.” This post is all dedicated to the books I read in July. Here’s my post “What I read in June.“

I have spent my fair share of time poolside with a book in my hand. I read 4 books this month, and I really enjoyed all of them.

Beach Read

I was planning on reading this book while on vacation this summer, but since travel has pretty much been halted I decided to kick off my month with Beach Read. I got this book from my June Book Of The Month.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she ends with a happily ever after, he kills off all of his characters. They’re polar opposites. The only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they’re living in neighboring beach houses, broke, with a bad case of writer’s block.

One thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel.

The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo

This was hands down my favorite book I read all month. I got it in my July Book of the Month and couldn’t wait to crack it open. It got such good praises and reviews online I was excited!

Aging and reclaimed Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. When she selects unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, everyone is confused. Why her? Why now?

Monique listens as Evelyn tells her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds—Monique begins to feel a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s in it’s own tragic way.

The Accidental Beauty Queen

I try to mix up my books each month so I am not reading the same thing over and over. After a more historical fiction read, I reached for The Accidental Beauty Queen. It was quirky and cute, and I flew through it in a few days.

Charlotte and Ginny Gorman are identical twins, but the only thing they have in common is their birthday. Charlotte is an elementary school librarian, and loves Harry Potter and reading. Ginny is an Instagram-famous beauty queen, who has been chasing the crown of Miss American Treasure since she was a little girl. But when Ginny has a face-altering allergic reaction the night before the pagent, Charlotte suddenly finds herself in a big switcharoo.

Totally unprepared for the glittery world of hair extensions, false eyelashes, and push-up bras, Charlotte realizes, after walking a mile in her twin’s sky-high stilettos, there might be more to the pageant circuit than just a sparkly crown.

Happy & You Know It

For my last book of the month, I grabbed Happy & You Know It. I ordered it as an add on a couple months back in my Book of The Month, but just found myself reaching towards it. If you are a fan of Gossip Girl, get yourself a copy of this book!

On the brink of bankruptcy after her band gave her the boot, Claire reluctantly agrees to a gig as a playgroup musician for overprivileged infants on New York’s Park Avenue. Claire is surprised to discover that she is smitten with her new employers, a welcoming clique of wellness addicts with incredibly shiny hair, who juggle juice cleanses to overpriced miracle vitamins to spin class all while being the picture perfect mother.

There is perfect hostess Whitney who is on the brink of social-media fame and just needs to find a way to keep her perfect life from falling apart. Funny and recent stay-at-home mom Amara who is struggling to embrace her new identity. And old money, veteran mom Gwen who never misses an opportunity to give out parenting advice. But as Claire grows closer to the cool women who pay her bills, she uncovers secrets and betrayals.

I really enjoyed the books I read in July. I am excited to find 4 new novels to read this month! Any recommendations?? What have you been reading lately?
