August to me, is the last moments of summer. Trust me, I love summer as much as the next person, but something about fall gets me giddy inside.
I wanted to take the month of August to read the rest of my beachy/summer reads on my to be read list, before shifting over to more cozy reads starting September.
I read 4 books in August and enjoyed them all! Check out what I read in July here!
Head Over Heels
I kicked off the month with this novel, mostly because it was supposed to be the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. I LOVE the Olympics, especially gymnastics. If you were a gymnast/cheerleader or just a fan of the Olympics – this book is for you!
Life for Avery Abrams has been hard: After training her entire life to make the Olympic gymnastics team, a disastrous performance ended her career for good. Her best friend and teammate, Jasmine, went on to become an Olympic champion, then married their emotionally abusive coach, Dimitri.
Avery returns to her Massachusetts hometown, where new coach Ryan asks her to help him train a promising young gymnast with Olympic aspirations. Back in the gym, she’s surprised to find sparks flying with Ryan. But when a shocking scandal in the gymnastics world breaks, it has shattering effects not only for the sport but also for Avery and her old friend Jasmine.
Ghosted
This book has been on my TBR (to be read) list for some time, so I thought August was a good month to sit down and read it. It took me about half way through to really get into it.
A twisted romance. When Sarah meets Eddie, they connect instantly and fall in love. To Sarah, it seems as though her life has finally begun. And it’s mutual: It’s as though Eddie has been waiting for her, too. Sarah has never been so certain of anything. So when Eddie leaves for a long-booked vacation and promises to call from the airport, she has no doubt. But he doesn’t call. Sarah’s friends tell her to forget about him, but she can’t. She knows something’s happened–there must be an explanation.
Minutes, days, weeks go by as Sarah becomes increasingly worried. But then she discovers she’s right. There is a reason for Eddie’s disappearance, and it’s the one thing they didn’t share with each other: the truth.
The Unhoneymooners
Another book that I knew I wanted to read this summer. It seemed like the perfect beach read, and I was correct! It was the cutest novel, kind of cheesy at times, but a feel good read! I thought it was also fitting since Mitch and I will be heading on our honeymoon in 2 short months!
Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. She’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests. Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.
When the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.
Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie, she and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend.
One To Watch
My last book of the month, was one that I ordered through my Book Of The Month. I knew it was based off The Bachelor, and since we were jipped of getting Bachelor in Paradise this summer, I thought this would be a great segway before Clare kicks off being Bachelorette in October!
Bea Schumacher is a stylish plus-size fashion blogger who has a ton of Insta followers–and a massively broken heart. Like the rest of America, Bea indulges in her weekly obsession: the hit reality show Main Squeeze. But Bea is sick and tired of the lack of body diversity on the show. She was sick of not seeing anyone who looked like her!
Just when Bea has sworn off dating altogether, she gets an intriguing call: Main Squeeze wants her to be its next star. Bea agrees, on one condition–under no circumstances will she actually fall in love. But when the cameras start rolling, Bea realizes things are more complicated than she anticipated. Bea has to decide whether it might just be worth trusting these men–and herself–for a chance to live happily ever after.
That’s it! All 4 books I read in September! Now give me all your cozy book recommendations! I have listed out the books I plan to read in September!
