Forget milk and cookies. When you shell out $5 for a box of tasty Girl Scout cookies, you’ve earned the right to enjoy a handful (or the entire box). Better yet, why not pair off your evening snack with a nice glass of wine? Ah, but which wine goes best with which cookie? Before you open every bottle in your wine fridge, I already did the heavy drinking—er, lifting—for you.
Here are the best Girl Scout cookie and wine pairings.
Tagalongs
Starting with my absolute favorite Girl Scout cookie. These cookies are comprised of a chocolaty cookie and a layer of gooey peanut butter for the ultimate PB-chocolate combo. Pair them with a Cabernet Sauvignon. It is the perfect complement to the Girl Scouts’ tasty marriage of chocolate and peanut butter.
Thin Mints
While Thin Mints are the reigning champion when it comes to cookie sales, they are one of the most difficult cookies to pair with wine, all because of that delicious chocolate and mint flavor combo. These thin, minty gems are equally crispy and sweet, making them a truly delicious indulgence. Pair them with bold, deep reds, like a Merlot or Pinot Noir.
Samoas
These coconut-dusted, super-toasted cookies are packed with caramel and drizzled with chocolate, making them the perfect match for a good Rioja. I am personally not a fan of Samosas, but I know they are popular among most!
Trefoils
There’s something super sweet and innocent about shortbread, which is one of the reasons Trefoils are a Girl Scout favorite. You’ll want something crisp, light and refreshing to a pair with these. A Chardonnay, Riesling, or Moscato is always a safe choice!
Do-si-dos
With oatmeal on the outside and creamy butter inside, these are *almost* considered healthy. I’ll take it. Pair your Do-si-dos with a Sauvignon Blanc or a Zinfandel.
Lemonades
If you’re a big fan of lemon dessert recipes, chances are you spring for Lemonades when GSC season comes around. These are light and delicate, so you’ll want to pair them with a sweeter wine, such as Riesling. The light, lemony goodness of these crispy cookies pairs perfectly with a citrusy wine.
Thanks-a-lots
These shortbread cookies come with a delicious layer of rich fudge on the bottom, so they’re generally the go-to favorite of chocolate lovers everywhere. Back in my day when I was a girl scout, we called them All Abouts. They’d go well with a Pinot Noir!
S’mores
What’s more summery than roasting s’mores over a campfire? And the only wine that absolutely screams summer fun is Rosé. A glass of the blush-colored wine, or even a Sparkling Rosé, pairs perfectly with this sandwich cookie.
Toffee-tastic
Love toffee? Then you’re probably nuts about Toffee-tastics, golden, buttery cookies with tons of crunchy toffee bits. If you’re springing for these tasty treats, pair them with a Red Blend.
What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie??
