Each season has its ups and downs. Fall is definitely the best season for fashion. From the cozy element, to layers, to the crisp in the air. Something about fall fashion is exciting! I know neutral lovers tend to love fashion even more for the color palette of fall tends to include more neutrals. Think tans, rusts, greens, maroon, on top of your basic neutrals.
Fall also has some of the best occasions out of the year. Pumpkin patches, football games, fall weddings just to name a few. If you have zero idea of outfit ideas to wear to your fall occasions, fear not because I have complied some of the most popular fall occasions and picked the perfect outfit formula for each!
I put together no-fail outfit formulas for your favorite fall events, from pumpkin patches to a night out on the town. It’s basically my fall fashion survival guide!
Pumpkin Patch
There is nothing more fall than a pumpkin patch or a winding corn maze (preferably walked with craft or pumpkin beer in hand) — and there is nothing that goes better with a pumpkin patch than a cozy sweater. We all have been begging for sweater weather, and it is finally approaching. If you want to let our your real inner basic fall girl, throw on a flat brim hat!
Apple Picking
I didn’t realize how much apple picking was such a midwestern thing until I moved to the south and there were no apple orchards. I remember growing up apple picking and picking all of the best honey crisp I could find. Then to eat my weight in apple cider donuts and wash it all down with a cup of apple cider. Sounds like a perfect fall day to me! There is nothing that goes better with any and all of these autumnal activities than a plaid button down. Pair it with a cozy thermal and relaxed mom jeans. But remember that apple orchards are 9/10 times muddy, so opt for a chunky waterproof boot.
Halloweentown Movie Marathon
I’m a firm believer in crewneck sweaters and also that Hocus Pocus is the scariest movie I ever want to encounter. There’s nothing better for movie night than the stretchiest of leggings, the coziest of socks, and a truly ginormous blanket. (Space heater not included but always preferred).
Fall Hike
One of my favorite parts of fall is all of the leaves. There has been many many times that I have teared up at a tree in all of its fall glory! Going for foliage walks or hikes is one of the best ways to spend a sunny fall day. Fabletics has been my go to for athleisure because the quality is top notch and their pieces just make you want to move your body! I love this rust set from Gap!
Game Day
Whether it is Saturday college football or Sunday NFL football, football is usually on at some point every weekend! Even better if you actually get to tailgate or go to a game in person! Can you believe it that I have never been to a Bears game!?! Any takers on who wants to take me!?! Layers are your best friend when it comes to football games— all that jumping up and down and cheering your team on will ensure you’ll need to shed a few throughout the day and you’ll also be set if you encounter that weird fall thing when the sun comes out and it’s BLISTERING for like four minutes and then boom no sun and it’s a freezing tundra again. Wear your favorite jersey over a comfy long-sleeve sweater and throw a cozy puffy vest over the whole shebang.
Date Night
A leather jacket is the perfect layer for a fall date — it never looks like “too much” and yet it goes with absolutely everything, from black jeans to tops with frills. Plus it’s cozy enough for an outdoor date or an after dinner walk. Be sure to complete your look with a dark lip! Happy smoochin’.
Wedding
Love is in the air this season [as well as fall allergies, but that’s neither here nor there] and the time to decide what in the world to wear to a fall wedding is upon us. I love experimenting with different fabrics and colors. Velvet would be a fun choice, or a silk midi in fall hues. Remember to always pair with a comfortable heel so you can be the dancing queen of the night!
Winery
Day trips to the nearby vineyards are one of my favorite things to do as the weather cools off. Nothing beats sipping on a dry red wine, admiring the leaves, soaking in the crisp fall air, and did I mention drinking wine? This is the perfect opportunity to whip our your sweater dress and knee high boots.
Night on the town
Last but not least, one of my absolute favorite things to do in the fall is to get all dressed up and hit the town. I’m talking fancy cocktails, a steak dinner, take in a show at the theater… the works. In my humble opinion, fall and winter are the best times to do this because you get the Big Reveal — the moment you take off your coat and wow everyone with your heretofore unseen outfit.
What other fall events do you need outfit ideas for!?!
