Out of the Ordinary Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

01.25.19Lifestyle0

Just call me Dr. Love. Your significant other will be so impressed when you throw out these creative ideas for the day of love.

O Valentine’s Day. The day full of cupid, flowers, chocolate, and all things love. For me, Valentine’s Day is all about showing the person you care about how much you love them. My love language is quality time. I love going on dates (extravagant or small), or just goofing around with the person I love. It doesn’t matter what we do, I just want to do it with them.

For me, Valentine’s Day is not about the flowers (call me anti-Valentine’s Day, but I do not like roses), or the chocolate (even though Reese’s hearts are to DIE for), but truly about making memories that we will cherish for a long time. This year will be Mitch and mine’s first Valentine’s Day together as an engaged couple, no pressure am I right? I have planned a few surprises that I know he will not see coming, however I left the planning of what we actually do to celebrate up to him.

Like I mentioned before, I love doing creative, fun, out of the ordinary things with Mitch. They often lead to the best memories, and ones that we never saw coming. I put a list of out of the ordinary, but still romantic Valentine’s Day date ideas that I thought would be genuinely super fun for V-day or any other day out of the year.

City Scavenger Hunt

I came across this Scavenger Hunt website when I was researching fun things to do in New Orleans. This seriously looks so cool and I cannot wait to try it out. Basically you go to this website, and search whichever city you are in or visiting and they pull up already made scavenger hunts for you to try. Seriously how fun would it be spending the day exploring, and venturing around your city or a new city finding all the hidden gems it has to offer? Scavenger Hunt has a special date night option designed for couples, old or new, to connect better with themed photo challenges and activities. Even if we don’t do this for Valentine’s Day, you bet Mitch and I will be doing this soon. I searched Louisiana and they had over 200 hunts to choose from!

Signature Scent Creation

The sense of smell is so important, especially in relationships. Ladies, don’t we all love a good smelling man? I found multiple websites online, with locations all over the country where you and your S.O. can make your own signature scent. How cool! Ladies, you can now help pick out exactly how your man will smell. With hundreds of different scents and oils to choose from and combine, there is no doubt you will create the most perfect smelling perfume/cologne your nostrils could ever imagine. Plus, it makes it extra romantic to spritz the scent that your S.O. helped make to spark some extra romance in the night. This will be a memory you will have with you forever, and every time you wear it you will be able to think of your lover.

Wine School Date

Ladies and gentleman, class is in session. In today’s lesson we will be covering how to become a wine drinking professional. Taste testing, learning about how wine is made, and what makes different types of wine unique, you will be feeling all warm and fuzzy after this class. The best part is, your homework is to drink lots and lots of wine to test your new knowledge. Wine classes are offered pretty much anywhere in any city. Search for a local wine tasting class in your area and you will become a wine connoisseur in no time.

The Melting Pot

One part about Valentine’s Day that I think is super special, is going out for a super romantic dinner. The Melting Pot is one of my favorite romantic restaurants. There’s something about dipping bread in melty cheese, and then at the same restaurant for dessert dipping all kind of goodies in melted chocolate that just screams romance to me. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant where your whole meal is made up of fondue. The first course is a cheese fondue (and excuse me who wouldn’t want a big bowl of melty cheese in front of you), the second course is your main entree of meat/seafood that you cook yourself. It is truly so yummy, you can choose from so many different sauces to make it exactly how you want it. Then the grand finale — CHOCOLATE FONDUE! I can dip about anything in chocolate and eat it. Talk about the best dessert ever. I am selfish and try to hoard as many strawberries as I can for myself because those are my favorite. Want to take this date a step further? Try preparing fondue for you and your S.O. at home! I will have to try that one soon.

Cooking Class

Call me strange, but I think cooking with someone can be so romantic. I have taken a few cooking classes, and they tend to be some of my favorite things. I have done an authentic Italian cooking class in the heart of Florence, Italy, and I think that is where I got hooked on cooking classes. I want to take Mitch to a cooking class with me and I think it will just be so fun! Learning how to cook foods from different cultures, or things we have just always wanted to learn sound like a fun date to me. You can add in a Valentine’s Day twist by learning to cook a romantic dinner that you can then take home and cook together on Valentine’s Day, or you can take a class where you make your own chocolate.

Dance Lessons

Get boogie with it with your S.O. with a night of dance lessons. Salsa, tango, 2-step, hip hop, whatever floats your dancing boat. I think this would be a blast! Mitch and I like to call ourselves “dancers” so I think this would be right up our alley. You and your S.O. will feel very connected as your bodies move as one. If Mitch and I took a dance lesson it would be hard to stay serious because we have daily dance lessons in our kitchen, so it would definitely be hard to take an instructor seriously. But then after you master a few moves, the next time you go out on the town, all of your friends will be impressed with you guys on the dance floor.

Valentine’s Day is all about spending it with the person you love and making memories. This Valentine’s Day I challenge you to get out of the normal dinner and a movie and do something you and your significant other will remember for years to come. Let me know what you come up with or if you try any of the crazy ideas I came up with!
