Happy National Watermelon Day! Watermelon is hands down my favorite fruit out there. There is nothing better than eating some fresh juicy watermelon on a hot summer day.
When I was in Savannah, GA at the beginning of summer, my mom and I tried watermelon in a whole new way at the Wyld Dock Bar. I have been eating watermelon this way ever since I got back from that trip.
I thought today would be the perfect way to share this simple way to eat watermelon. It would be perfect for a bbq, appetizer, or just added to any lunch or dinner!
How I eat watermelon
When I said this watermelon recipe was simple, boy did I mean simple. Just 4 simple ingredients to add to your watermelon to make it delicious.
- Cut your watermelon up into triangles
- Sprinkle salt over the top of each slice
- Drizzle olive oil over the top of each slice
- Squeeze fresh lime juice over each slice
- Top with fresh basil
So easy, but so tasty. I never would have thought putting these flavors on top of a slice of watermelon, but they all just work together.
The salt brings out the flavor of the watermelon itself. The added lime adds some tang, and the fresh basil is just yummy on just about anything!
