One of my favorite summer accessories is a straw hat. I do not know why it took me so long to get my hands on one of them, but I am so happy I am now a proud owner of multiple straw hats.
Straw hats add a perfect finishing touch to any summer look. I feel like they can dress up or dress down any outfit. You can add a straw hat to nearly any outfit, doesn’t matter what your destination is.
Another great reason for straw hats is that they protect your beautiful face from the sun. The temperatures can get pretty high up here in Chicago in the summertime, so any added sun protection is needed.
I styled 3 looks that I think work seamlessly with a straw hat. In all three looks I am wearing this straw hat here. It is the Joanna hat from Nordstroms and I obsessed with it. But I linked a few other straw hats perfect for summer here, here, here, and here. For me personally, I love a structured brim on a straw hat. I think floppy hats are perfect for the beach, but for a polished look I prefer a firm brim.
Look #1 Jumpsuit + Sandals
JUMPSUIT: TJ MAXX FIND, BUT FOUND SIMILAR HERE! SHOES: ALDO
First of all, jumpsuits are my absolute favorite. They are practically pajamas you can wear in public. My mother always told me growing up that pajamas are for bed only, so it is not proper to wear them out in public. I have stuck to this rule my whole life. However, I feel like jumpsuits are the closest thing you can get to wearing your pajamas in public. I love this polka dot print, and the material is so breezy for summer.
I think every woman needs a good pair of white sandals for summer. I have a couple, but these are comfy, and provide enough support to walk around all day in.
Look #2 Paper Bag Shorts + Crop Top + Mules
SHORTS: MARSHALL’S FIND, SIMILAR HERE! TOP: SHEIN , MULES: OLD BUT FOUND SIMILAR HERE AND HERE
Paper bag shorts are EVERYWHERE and I am not mad about it. I think that they are extremely flattering on all body types. I like that they tie at your waist which is also the narrowest part of your body. Paper bag shorts also tend to be longer so your booty cheeks are not shown to the world. This striped pair is so fun and fits in my closest perfectly.
This ribbed white crop top is another summer staple in my closest. I am not a huge crop top fan, but it makes a seamless look with high waisted bottoms. Plus you do not have to worry about tucking in a long tank top.
I picked up these orange mules from the DSW clearance section about 2 years ago, and they are a great pop to my shoe collection. I think a pop of color in shoes adds that extra wow element to a look. Plus who doesn’t love orange in the summertime?
Look #3 Shift Dress + Espadrilles
DRESS: LAST SEASON VINEYARD VINES, BUT FOUND SIMILAR HERE, ESPADRILLES: YOKONO
A shift dress is such an easy option for the summer. They are loose and breezy so when the temperatures start rising you will feel nice and cool. They also look effortless and I love the feminine look this one has with the off the shoulder. My mom always tells me that my shoulders are one of my best assets, so I always enjoy when I get to show them off.
Ok I posted on Instagram with these shoes, and y’all I got so many compliments. To be honest I was a little weary with the whole espadrilles trend. I wasn’t sure if they were quite my style, but once I saw these cheetah ones at Marshalls, I was hooked. I am happy I got myself a pair and I am still learning to see how I like to style them. But you will probably see a lot of them this summer.
So long story short, you can add a straw hat to just about any look this summer. I think these three looks are the great examples of just any summer outfit, but the straw hats adds that extra accessory to really make a complete look.
Let me know what is your favorite way to style a straw hat!
