How To Dress For Fall When It Is Hot Out Still

09.12.19Fashion6

Since Starbucks has officially started serving the pumpkin spiced latte that means it’s fall right? Now I am a HUGE fall girl. I love everything pumpkin, and that has to do with fall. One of my favorite parts of the season is fall fashion. It is one of my favorite seasons to dress for. I love cozy sweaters, booties, and fall accessories.

For all of my life once September came around the temperatures started to cool off a little. I loved this because it meant it was truly fall and that the leaves were going to start changing. But now I find myself moving south in October which is my favorite fall month. It will be an adjustment to not have true fall temperatures in October. So how do I still dress like it is fall when it is still hot outside? I have put together some tips for how to dress for fall when it still feels like summer outside.

Transition into fall color schemes

ROMPER: HM, HAT: old Anthropology, but similar here, BOOTS: Steve Madden

In the summertime, my wardrobe is all about bright colors and fun prints. I wear a lot of hot pinks, corals, and pastels. But when autumn is around the corner, it is time to put the bright colors away for the most part and stick to a more fall color scheme. Do not get me wrong, I still wear my pinks and fun prints, but I try to wear more muted pinks like blush or rose and not as much Barbie pink. It’s all about balance right? But when it is still hot outside, I wear pieces that are still for summer, just in fall colors. Like this olive utility romper. It is lightweight and great for the hot temps, but still screams fall because it is olive. I try to find shorts, dresses, rompers, and tees in the fall colors. I gravitate towards maroon, rusty orange, olive, plum, mustard, and neutrals.

DRESS: Boohoo BOOTS: Steve Madden

Speaking of neutrals, my favorite spin off of neutrals is animal prints. Animal prints are everywhere this summer and fall whether it be cheetah, snakeskin or leopard. You can find pretty much anything in animal print. This is great for transitional pieces because animal print for the most part is made up of neutrals that fit a fall color scheme. I love this cheetah print dress because it is lightweight and I can easily transform it into fall. Switch out my sandals for these black booties, and tie a denim jacket around my waist and I am set!

Combine fall textures with summer textures

SWEATER: Asos ROMPER: Old from Nordstrom Rack, but similar here, BOOTS: Steve Madden, SUNNIES: Kate Spade

One of the great things about fall fashion are the textures. If you ask me to describe fall fashion in one word I would say cozy. When the temperatures get cooler, cozy sweaters, cozy cardigans, cozy scarves, everything tends to get cozier. However, when the weatherman says it will still be 80 degrees, you don’t want to dress cozy.

I think it is fun to mix and match different textures. By adding in fall textures such as suede or a cozy element to your look combined with lighter summer textures, your outfit transforms into fall. That is what I did with this romper. It is so lightweight and this summer I paired it with a little tee underneath. To add some fall coziness I wore a pink sweater underneath to add that texture. Now when the temperatures start to cool off in the nighttime I will be set. You can also add fall textures by adding a cardigan to practically any outfit.

Dress + Booties + Hat

ROMPER: Zara, but similar here HAT: World Market BOOTIES: Steve Madden

This is my transitional fall weather uniform. You can take any dress or romper, throw on a pair of booties and it automatically makes it “fall”. I love to wear dresses all year long. By swapping out my sandals or wedges for a pair of booties let me do that!

Shorts + Sweater + Sneakers

SWEATER: Express SHORTS: HM SNEAKERS: QUPID

Another great outfit choice for when it is still hot outside. First of all these shorts hit so many of my tips. They are animal print, lightweight, and at $13 they are practically perfect. Shorts and sweater combo is great for a transitional fall look. Especially a lightweight sweater when the temps are really warm. But this is a great look for nighttime when the temperatures lower. I also love wearing a cardigan over my shorts to keep you warm and still look like you’re dressing for fall.
