In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend I got to thinking of how I wanted to celebrate with my mom. My mom deserves the world for how supportive, helpful, and just awesome she is every day. I 1,000% would not be half the young woman I am today without her on my team. I know I want Mother’s Day to be special so I figured I would round up some fun Mother-Daughter date ideas that would be perfect for Mother’s Day, her birthday, or simply any day you want to make some memories with her. I wanted to think out of the box and not just the classic Mother’s Day Brunch.
Cooking class
My mom and I did this one Mother’s Day and it was too fun! We went to Sur La Table and it was a great experience. I remember we made crab cakes and lobster rolls and they were so yummy. My mom was the one to teach me to cook so I thought it was fitting to take a class together. Cooking is one of my mom’s favorite things to do, and with both of us being foodies it was the perfect way to spend a day together. Sur La Table has locations all over the country and all different kinds of classes. From “Lunch in Paris” to “Mexican Street Tacos,” to “Gnocchi From Scratch” there is something for everyone. Just reading the titles of all the classes make me want to sign up for one again pronto!
Concert
This is something my mom and I do every year together. We started my freshman year of college and it has been a tradition we both cherish and look forward too. Going to a concert with your mom is a fun night overall. Dancing, singing, and just enjoying the atmosphere together. My mom and I are both country music fans and have seen a ton of artists together like Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, and Zac Brown Band. However my mom is HIGH KEY OBSESSED with Justin Timberlake. We have seen him 3 times together. I can’t wait to see what concert we will end up at this summer together.
Make Your Own Sign Class
If you are anything like my mom and I then you have not one crafty bone in your body. We have tried the wine and paint classes, and while they are fun, we can’t help but laugh the whole time at how horrid our paintings are. I guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree in the craft department. However, I think we could make our own signs and have them turn out well. Lumber & Salt is a local Chicago Suburbs company that have DIY workshops to make your own wooden sign. Check out their instagram here, Lisa has so many cute signs I might just need to buy a couple! I think this would be a super unique and fun idea to create something special with your mom that when y’all see it you will think of each other. I think this would be extra special for my mom and I since I am on the other side of the country half the year.
Horserace Track
Where my mom and I will most realistically end up on this Mother’s Day is at the races to watch Mitch. Arlington International Racecourse is an awesome place to bring mom for Mother’s Day. Before I even knew Mitch, or worked at the track we took my mom and Nana there for Mother’s Day one year and it was a blast. Something about dressing up and betting on some ponies is a fun way to spend the day. Arlington has so much going on that day with giving the first 1,000 moms a red rose to celebrate them, a live DJ, and a ton of family fun activities. My mom and I will be sipping fruity drinks and hopefully cheering Mitch on to a couple wins!
Make Your Own Perfume Workshop
If there is one thing about the ladies that I think we can all agree on is that we love to smell good. How amazing would it be to create your perfect smell with all of your favorite scents. Mine would be something fruity and floral, what would your signature scent be? There are these classes all over the place where you get to make your own perfume. Aroma Workshop is in Chicago and I think I need to sign my mom and I up for a class.
Tea House
My mom has always had a fascination with tea houses and high tea. We are going to London this summer, and I know we will for sure end up at a high tea. If you’ve been to London let me know if you have any recommendations for tea! Something about dressing up in florals and pastels and sipping on tea sounds like a lovely afternoon. A tea house would be a perfect place to take your mom for Mother’s Day. Just enjoying an afternoon talking and eating little finger foods and pastries.
Floral Arrangement Class
With spring finally coming around the corner here in Illinois, all of the flowers are starting to bloom. Fresh flowers are probably my favorite thing about the springtime. I love going and picking up fresh blooms to have all over the house. How fun would it be to learn how to make the most beautiful arrangements and bouquets that you can then turn around and make them in your home all spring and summer long. Lake Forest Flowers offer tons of different classes including a succulent class and a red, white, and blue class for this upcoming 4th of July. Both classes do include wine so if that’s not enough reasons to sign up then you’re simply crazy. Who wouldn’t love an event with fresh flowers and wine? Sign me up!
So this Mother’s Day take it up a few levels of fun and make memories with the lady who gave birth to you. Follow along on my Instagram stories to see what my mom and I are up to this Sunday! Let me know what you and your hot mama end up doing to celebrate her!
