How to get to Secret Beach, San Pedro

04.14.19International, Travel2

If you ask Mitch and I what one of our favorite parts of Belize was, it was without a doubt, Secret Beach. A hidden paradise on the other side of the island, that the only way to get there is by word of mouth and unmarked paths? Sign us up! We had just as much fun as finding the beach as we did on the beach. I almost didn’t want to share how to get to Secret Beach since it is such a hidden gem, but if you are heading to Belize, this is a must do.

  • Rent a golf cart in town at San Pedro.  We set ours up with our hotel and had it for our whole stay. Once you get in your golf cart head towards downtown to Front Street. There are 3 main streets in San Pedro: Back, Middle, and Front. Head on Front Street until it reaches the clock tower and then turn left onto Middle Street.
  • Middle Street will bring you to a bridge. It is shortly after the Fire Department. The bridge has a $5 fee. You will be given a pink slip for your return crossing, do not lose that! Then stay on the road for as long as it goes – Trust me it seems like a long way, but keep going.
  • You will pass a few hotels, and restaurants. One of our fav spots, The Truck Stop will be on your left hand side. You should definitely stop there for lunch – they open at noon! Read my restaurant guide here!
  • Eventually you will get to the end of the paved road and a dirt path will curve to the left.  Go down that path. There will be a lot of signs for different restaurants/beach bars.
  • At that curve you’ll notice that the land quickly goes from lush, tropical greens to flat, desolate earth.  This road will be fairly easy to navigate, however drive cautiously for there are lots of holes and uneven gravel on the path. Don’t be surprised when you see maybe 2-3 houses, and then nothing else but nature.
  • When you think you’ve gone too far and start getting concerned you will finally see a small sign that steers you to the LEFT.
  • From there, there will be small signs close to the ground directing you; look down so you don’t miss them. Follow these and they will lead you to Secret Beach.
  • You will know you are there because there will be a HUGE Secret Beach sign and the reggae music will be blaring. If you buy something at one of the many beach bars, you are free to use a beach chair all day.
