Has anyone else turned into a total book nerd during this quarantine? I am constantly finding myself reaching for a book or ordering more books. I even joined a book subscription, Book of the Month. They have 5 different options each month, with an option to add another book! I just ordered my April box, so I will keep y’all updated on what I think and when I get my books!
I am currently reading “The Nightingale” which has been on my list for awhile! I have not been able to put it down, I haven’t finished it yet, but I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an historical fiction read. This one takes place in France during WWII.
Where the Crawdads Sings
I feel like everyone and their mother is talking about this book. I finally got a copy of this book, and let me tell you, the hype about it is real. I could not put it down. I got lost in the world of the swamp following the main character Kya as she learns to raise herself on the land and little to her name. If you are looking for a book to read, I would hands downs say get yourself a copy of this!
When Life Gives You Lulu Lemons
I’ve mentioned this book a couple times, and it is just a lighthearted read that would be great during this quarantine time. If you are a fan of “The Devil Wears Prada”, you need to pick up this book! It follows the life of Emily (Miranda’s assistant) after she stopped working for her.
Whiskey In A Teacup
If you haven’t gotten yourself a copy of Reese Witherspoon’s “Whiskey In A Teacup” you need to get on that ASAP. Not only is it an adorable coffee table book, I have learned so many little tips and tricks for entertaining, cooking, or just living in the south. It is an easy read! I not only love Reese, but after reading this book I really feel we are quite similar and I look up to her!
Food Whore
Any foodies out there? This novel gives you an inside look at the New York City dining and restaurant world. Follow the life of Tia Monroe who goes from a college student to a life of glamour and luxury: four-star dinners, sexy celebrity chefs, and an unlimited expense account at Bergdorf Goodman. Tia loves every minute of it, until she sees her words in print and the hottest food critic, Michael Saltz, taking all the credit.
My Not So Perfect Life
During this time, I feel like people are spending so much extra time on social media. This can be toxic, while I try to use social media as a creative outlet, it is hard to not play the compare game! This book takes a deep dive look on how a person’s life on social media does not tell the whole story.
The Orphan Train
This story follows two children who travel aboard the orphan train. Between 1854 and 1929, so-called orphan trains ran regularly from the cities of the East Coast to the farmlands of the Midwest, carrying thousands of abandoned children whose fates would be determined by pure luck. Would they be adopted by a kind and loving family, or would they face a childhood of hard labor and servitude?
Lucia, Lucia
I am a big historical fiction buff, and this one is one of my favorite books to date. I also am a huge fan of Adriana Trigiani, and have a list of her books I want to read. “Lucia, Lucia” takes place in the 1950’s New York and follows a young women who navigates having a career in a department store post war, and navigating her love life while she is engaged to her childhood sweetheart and a new man that enters her life. It is a charming, great story!
The Young Wives Club
I finished this quick read in less than a week. This story takes place in Louisiana and follows four girls through their young love stories. Each woman has different conflicts, positives, and with each other’s friendships are able to navigate through their love lives at a young age.
Little Fires Everywhere
I highly recommend reading this before you watch the new Hulu series staring Reese Witherspoon and Kerri Washington. The show is good, but I am a big advocate of reading the book before you watch it.
Other books on my reading list:
- The Two Lives of Lydia Bird
- Red, White, and Royal Blue
- Untamed
- The Royal We
- The Shoemaker’s Wife
- The Paris Seamstress
- The Alice Network
