The temperature is dropping and the leaves are changing!
We are approaching one of my favorite times of year… FALL
From the pumpkin spice everything to the pumpkins and all the countless fall activities, I am an Autumn lover through and through.
I especially love decorating my home and front porch for Fall. Doesn’t matter if you live in an apartment or a mansion, you can decorate your front doors easily and quickly, you just need some inspiration.
Grab some pumpkins, spooky signs, and hay bales to get the season underway!
My go to place for finding inspiration for my front porch decorations is Pinterest. There are some real elaborate ones, but I like looking at the color schemes, and overall themes to see which ones I like best. I am not a farmhouse fan, and I knew I wanted to be a little bit more traditional with my fall decorations.
Pumpkins, Mums, Hay bales, Signs Galore!
I originally didn’t even plan on decorating my porch for fall this soon, but when I was at Menards, and spotted the mums and all of the pumpkins and gourds, I knew it was time to act one it before all the good ones were taken.
I started with the mums. Mums are my favorite fall flower, and once they bloom they add such beauty to your porch. There are so many different colors: yellow, purple, orange, red, and white. In order to keep things cohesive I decided on two colors; purple and orange. There was this MASSIVE purple mum that hasn’t quite bloomed yet, but I can just tell it is going to be gorgeous once it does. So I snatched it up, as well as 2 smaller orange ones. When decorating, things look better in odds, especially 3’s.
After I grabbed my mums, I went over to the pumpkin/gourd section and that’s where I get super excited. I love pumpkins so much, I am unsure of where my fascination with them came from. But ever since I was a little girl, going to the pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins was my favorite fall activity.
But now there are so many different variations of pumpkins and gourds. Long gone are the days of just a simple orange pumpkin. Don’t get me wrong, I love the classics and picked the most perfect one for the porch. However, I also love finding unique shapes, colors, sizes, and kinds.
I also would recommend getting an arrangement of different sizes, colors, shapes, etc. This is how you’re going to make your porch your own!
I ended up with 2 small white pumpkins, a flatter bumpy coral color one, a light orange almost pink looking one, a scrunched up green pumpkin, a classic orange pumpkin, a giant green and white gourd, a bag of mini pumpkins, and a bag of mini assorted gourds. A girl can never have too many pumpkins!
Tip: The pumpkin patch is so aesthetically pleasing and fun, but when you are looking for multiple ones, it can get very expensive very quickly. I find that getting your decorating pumpkins at local grocery stores, hardware stores, etc saves you a few extra bucks. That way you can go to the pumpkin patch and maybe pick out a special one!
I also love making a swing through Home Goods to see what outdoor decorations they have. I have 2 signs on my porch this fall. A wooden one, and then I found this gnome sign that I just knew I needed to have. I have a thing for gnomes, and I love the little added details it adds to my porch this year.
Add a cute, festive door mat to complete your fall porch! Here are a few of my faves!
But the squirrels keep eating my pumpkins!
Fear not, I have the perfect solution for when the squirrels, chipmunks, or other little critters eat your pumpkins! You are going to take a spray bottle (I just use an old cleaning product one), fill it up with water, a ton of hot sauce (I’m talking like A LOT), and a little bit of dish soap. Shake it all up and spray your pumpkins with it in the mornings, and it will keep all the little animals away! If you want to take it a step further sprinkle some pepper flakes on your pumpkins as well.
Fall Front Porch Inspiration
Remember to make it your own, play around with things, utilize what you already have from year’s past, and have fun! It is the first impression of when someone comes to your home. I like to say I decorate my front porch for the Amazon, UPS, and Fedex men to enjoy since they are delivering so many packages all the time!
