GUYS! WHEN DID IT BECOME AUGUST ALREADY!?!! I can’t believe we only have one more month of summer! This summer flew by. I was busy in the best way. From traveling, to trying new things, and hanging with my loved ones – I would say summer 2021 almost felt normal.
Looking back at my summer bucket list, I have accomplished a fair amount of the things I wanted to. No pressure, but I feel like the last month of summer everyone is trying to fit in all of the summer activities before September comes. Once September hits, I am in full fall mode. Bring on the pumpkins, sweaters, apple cider, and witches!
BUTTTT until then I am still in a summer state of mind. Summer is one of my favorite times of the year and there are so many fun activities to do. Here are some of the things that I have accomplished or still have on my bucket list for this last month.
Britt’s End Of Summer Bucket List
- Go Berry Picking – I don’t care if it is blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, cherries. I just want to go pick some fruit and then make a few recipes and cocktails!
- Tubing down a river – Unsure if I can make this one happen this summer, but this one is so fun to do on a super hot summer day. This is where I have gone in the past and would love to go again!
- Watch an outdoor movie – Pack a picnic basket full of popcorn, candy, and wine, spread out a blanket and enjoy a movie under the stars.
- Lake Day – This is a shameless plug, if anyone wants to take me out on a boat before summer ends I will provide really good snacks and drunken pineapple!
- Street Festival – There are SO MANY street festivals happening in August. From art fairs, to food festivals, to outdoor concerts. This is one part of summer that I try to take advantage of. Check your town’s Facebook events to see what is happening locally.
- Farmer’s Market – If you are not shopping your local farmer’s market, then you are missing out. I love strolling around on a Saturday afternoon seeing what goodies I can take home. I stock up on the corn this time of year!
- Amusement Park – I think pretending to be a kid for a day is super fun. Whether it be a water park or roller coasters – this always feels like summer!
- Visit a local brewery – I am actually working on an Illinois brewery guide (stay tuned), but this is one of my favorite summertime activities. Extra brownie points if they have a patio to sit on.
- Rooftops/Patios: On the topic of patios, eat/drink/sit outside any chance you can get! Once fall comes around, the opportunities to enjoy time on a patio start to slow down. Yes, air conditioning is nice, but something out spending a night out on a patio is the perfect summer evening to me.
- Road trip: There is still time to hop in the car and head to a new destination for a day or two. I did this the other day, and drove up to Michigan to spend the day at the beach. It was only an 1.5 hour drive, and the change of scenery really helped.
- Travel: I personally like to travel all year round, but traveling in the summer is the easiest. I have been super blessed to be able to travel all over this summer. From Austin, Nashville, and Croatia, I have 2 more summer trips planned. A girl’s weekend in Milwaukee, and then an end of the summer trip to Santa Fe over Labor Day.
- Drive-in movie: let the top down, hitch down, or windows down and enjoy some cuddle time during movie season.
- Have s’mores night– it’s the official summer dessert for a reason, and the only thing needed for a summer evening! This works over fire pits, camping trips, or over a grill in the backyard. Get creative with toppings and enjoy!
- Baseball Game – Whether it’s the Cubs, Sox, Chicago Dogs, or Kane County Cougars get to the ballpark before football season is back!
- Soak up every day – Summer goes by so fast. It is over in a blink of an eye. Don’t just wait for the weekend to do fun things. I am a big promoter of fun on the weekdays. Otherwise you miss out on so many opportunities. Enjoy the sunshine, the hot weather, and all the summer activities because before we know it there will be snow on the ground and we will be pulling our parkas and boots out from storage.
Happy last month of summer y’all, let’s make it count!
