Whether you like it or not, it’s coming. February 14th, but to much of the world, Valentine’s Day. From the diamond ring commercials to the romantic movie marathons taking over your daily Netflix binging. This year, I am going to forget about defending being single and spend the day doing something positive for myself. Which will most likely involve getting sick off of eating too many Reese’s hearts and curled up watching my fav romcom!
Here are 20 fun activities to do if you’re single on Valentine’s Day that are way better than overpaying for a dozen roses anyway. Plus I am personally more of a tulips kind of gal myself!
1. DRINK WINE
Buy a nice bottle of wine (or sign up for a wine subscription box) and enjoy every drop of it. Go back to the cheap stuff tomorrow.
2. PLAN A VIRTUAL COOKING NIGHT
Send a Zoom link to a friend or two and all cook the same dinner together. You know that fancy pin you have saved on Pinterest for that meal you have been dying to try? Now is the time to do it! Plus it will go great with your nice bottle of wine!
3. GET RID OF OLD JUNK
Marie Kondo your house or apartment while blasting Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” on repeat. Ignore your married neighbors’ repeated requests to turn it down. In fact, turn it up. Just like letting go the toxic people in your life, let go of all the junk you have been “meaning to get rid of”.
4. DANCE MORE
In fact, do the same, but with TLC’s “No Scrubs,” Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Miss Independent.” Nothing like a solo dance party!
5. TAKE A VIRTUAL MUSEUM TOUR
Take a break from Netflix for the night and head to one of these online museums, like Paris’ Musée D’Orsay or Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum, all thanks to Google’s Arts and Culture platform. This is something I plan on doing soon! It will definitely help with my urge to travel!
6. GO DOWN A TIKTOK SHOPPING RABBIT HOLE
We’ve all been there. Opened the app, and then all of a sudden 2 hours have gone by and you find yourself down a deep rabbit hole. Take a look at some of the best shopping hashtags like #amazonfinds #targetmusthaves and #beautyfinds, for unusual products. Warning: it is dangerous and have your credit card ready!
7. BUY YOURSELF FLOWERS
You don’t need a man to have fresh blooms in the house. Whether your favorite flower be tulips (like me), peonies, roses, or anything else! You are beautiful and deserve some beautiful flowers!
8. HAVE A THEMED TAKEOUT AND MOVIE NIGHT
It doesn’t sound revolutionary, but what if you get takeout from somewhere very special (like that fancy Italian restaurant around the corner) and pair it with a fitting film (like Letters To Juliet or Eat Pray Love)? Treating yourself to an indulgent meal from a fine dining restaurant and picking a flick that goes with the theme sounds like a lovely evening!
9. PLAN A DREAM VACATION
Whether it’s 1,000 thread count sheets in a fabulous luxury hotel in Dubai, pristine tropical waters in Bora Bora or snowy peaks in Switzerland— Take a one-night escape from the stress of the present by planning a travel adventure.
10. TAKE A STROLL AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Sure it’s a little chilly out, but that’s just an excuse to finally break out your new winter boots or beanie! Plus a little fresh air is good for the soul!
11. START AN EVENING OF SELF CARE
Don’t shave your legs (because, duh), but do put on fluffy slippers, cozy sweatpants and apply all the skincare products you bought during quarantine.
12. CUE THE ROM COM MOVIE MARATHON
Whether you care to admit it or not, everyone loves a good romance. From the beautiful, devastating, passionate and mushy flicks watch them all! From 13 Going on 30, to Friends With Benefits, grab some popcorn and cuddle up! I am a huge fan of rom coms and Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to indulge in all of them!
13. BAKE A DESSERT AND THEN DROP OFF EXTRAS TO YOUR NEIGHBORS
We won’t judge if you want to keep all 24 cookies for yourself, but if you’d rather have minimal leftovers, drop off sweets to your next door neighbors as an act of kindness. Whether it be dipped strawberries, brownies, cookies, anything!
14. VOLUNTEER SOMEWHERE YOU’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT
Offer your time to a local animal shelter and realize that a dog would make the best boyfriend. Valentine’s Day is all about love, not just romantic love – so being kind and volunteering is a great way to show love to your community!
15. REDECORATE YOUR PLACE
Need a change of scenery? Make it happen without even changing locations. Let’s be honest, we’re all spending so much time in our homes right now and a little redecorating can make a huge difference! Whether it’s the living room or the bathroom, give your space a refresh. *Runs to Home Goods!
16. TOUR A NATIONAL PARK
While you probably wish you could be out exploring the depths of the Grand Canyon, Alaska’s stunning glaciers or any of the country’s other 60 national parks, for now you’ll have to satisfy our wanderlust virtually. Here, you can virtually tour almost all 62 national parks from the comfort of your couch—without any crowds or bugs.
17. RANK CELEBRITY CRUSHES
Watch all the Oscar-nominated movies and rank them by attractiveness of their stars. I’m talking about you Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper!
18. MAKE HANDMADE VALENTINES
Whether it be for your Galentines, mom, grandma, or anyone special in your life, sending them a handmade card will be sure to make them smile. Remember Valentine’s Day is about all types of love, not just romantic!
19. CATCH UP ON SLEEP.
Because we frankly can all use some more of it. Also spread out because you don’t have anyone to steal the covers!
20. DON’T SWEAT IT
Basically, forget about Valentine’s Day and go about your day as you normally would. Just think of all the half-price chocolate you can buy tomorrow.
What are you Valentine’s Day plans?
