Happyyyy Monday! How was your weekend?!
I feel like sometimes busy weekends can amplify the Sunday Scaries even more. But I have a confession: I actually enjoy Monday’s! I know you’re thinking how can you possibly like Monday’s?
I know––a seemingly impossible thing, yes? With a lot of practice I have taught myself to actually enjoy the first day of the week.It might take a few extra creative tricks up your sleeve, but it’s not so impossible after all.
9 WAYS TO ACTUALLY ENJOY MONDAYS
1. BLAST A HAPPY SONG WHEN YOU WAKE UP
This, I promise you, is the best Monday trick I know.
Whether that be when you are in the shower, brushing your teeth, on your way to work, or while getting dressed. This is the number one way I find to start my day off to a good start. Nothing like a little dance party on a Monday morning. I am naturally a morning person so this may be easier for me, but I promise give it a try!
2. DUST OFF YOUR CROCKPOT
Assemble what you need Sunday night (check out these recipes for starters), cram it all in that magical little contraption on Monday morning and you’ll be mentally looking forward to that delicious dinner all day! The smell throughout the house will be almost irresistible. Not to mention you’ll have zero cooking to do. And less cooking=more time to relax!
3. PLAN A GIRLS NIGHT ON MONDAY NIGHT
Why do we never suggest Monday as an option when getting together with friends? We really should. Excitement to see someone you love makes the day go by so much faster! Not to mention, you need a reason to celebrate the fact that Monday is over! Bonus points if its Bachelor night because a little charcuterie and wine is never a bad idea.
4. DON’T HIT SNOOZE
This is SO hard to do, but hitting the snooze button 5 times before you get up is just setting yourself up for a crappy, rushed morning. Getting up an hour earlier to take your time, enjoy your coffee, maybe even read a book and linger in your PJs–or just time to wrap up what you never got around to on Sunday night–makes a HUGE difference. I am personally a person who wakes up at my first alarm, but I encourage you to not hit snooze!
5. TRY SOMETHING NEW WITH YOUR HAIR, MAKEUP, OR OUTFIT
Something as simple as a swipe of red lipstick works wonders for me–or even coming up with a new, different outfit combination of your same closet staples will put more pep in your step. Try a braid instead of your usual ponytail–just shake things up a little bit. You’ll be surprised at how well it works–you won’t feel “Monday-ish” at all!
Plus, when you try something new, people will notice–and they’ll compliment you! When do you need nice ego boosters more than ever? MONDAYS.
6. MOVE YOUR BODY
My gym has the mantra, never skip a Monday and it could never be so true. Nothing feels better that getting in a sweat sesh to start off your week. I personally have started getting my work out in before work, so that early 6AM class has been calling my name. But even if you are a night time gym goer, starting the week by moving your body is a great way to set yourself up for success!
7. WAIT UNTIL MONDAY TO START A NEW BOOK, TV SHOW, OR MAGAZINE
Think of how excited you’ll be to wake up on Monday knowing that today is the day you come home and finally start watching the new season of that Netflix show, get around to actually starting that book on your TBR list, or that new issue of In Style or Conde Nast that has been patiently sitting on your coffee table since Wednesday.
8. GET OUTSIDE
I feel like Mondays can be the most hectic, stressful day of the week, so it’s easy to look up from your computer and realize you haven’t left your desk all day. Even taking just a quick walk makes a HUGE difference in my mood. Get outside on your lunch break, go for a walk around the neighborhood after work, take a coffee break and walk to that cute cafe down the street, whatever!
9. MAKE LISTS, AND TAKE A SECOND TO SIT DOWN AND PLAN OUT YOUR WEEK
I know a lot of people advocate for doing this on Sundays, but oftentimes, I don’t WANT to think about the rest of the week on Sunday! So if that’s you, sit down on Monday morning with your coffee and plan out what you need to accomplish for the week.
This is great for a few reasons. 1. Whenever I feel overwhelmed with the tasks I need to accomplish, writing them down always makes me feel better. It looks a lot less scary on paper than it does in your head. 2. When you map out a plan, a lot more gets done than if you just wing it. Plus I get a lot of joy by crossing something off of my to do list, anyone else?
HOPE THESE GAVE YOU A LITTLE INSPIRATION TO START YOUR WEEK! HAPPY MONDAYING!
