I cannot believe we are less than 2 weeks away from the Kentucky Derby! This year will definitely be one to remember. From the Run for the Roses being ran in September for the first time in history, to the world pandemic, to all of the changes 2020 has brought. However, your outfit can still be amazing!
Even thought fans are not able to attend the Derby this year, chances are you will still watch the race or attend/host an At-Home Derby party! Either way, you can still dress the part! I have a whole post about throwing an at-home derby party. Read it here!
Fashion at the races is one of my favorite topics. Even though I have not been able to attend the races in person this summer, I have all of my race day outfit picked out and ready to go! Fingers crossed I can wear some of them during the Keeneland fall meet in October.
I pulled together 5 outfit ideas that you can wear to an At-Home Derby celebration, or if you want to get a head start on Derby 2021.
White Dress
It is officially the last weekend where you can wear a little white dress, according to the old tale – no white after Labor Day. Why not go out with a bang with a white number for Derby. Since Derby is normally in the spring, white would be a great choice.
The best part about a white dress is that your accessories can really pop, and the possibilities are endless. Adding a color headpiece, like the crown I wore here is a great option.
Lace Dress
When I think of the Kentucky Derby, I think of classic southern style. Lace, pastels, pearls, the whole shebang! Something about dressing in a southern dress while sipping a mint julep- you can’t get more Derby than that!
Pairing a headpiece with a classic lace dress is easier than you think. You can go with a simple fascinator like I did here, or you can pair it with any hat of your choosing.
Check out these classic southern dresses that would be perfect for Derby!
Chic Jumpsuit
If dresses aren’t your thing, I would consider wearing a jumpsuit. I think a sleek jumpsuit can be so elegant and classy! I sometimes steer away from jumpsuits because I am so short, but when I find a good one I jump on it!
Bold Dress
Nothing says bold like a pop of color. I love wearing a bold dress for events. It makes you stand out, especially if it is a real head turner like my hot pink number above. Why blend in if you were born to stand out?
When it comes to headpieces, I would opt for a more neutral colored one. I loved this gold crown with pink embellishments. It was the perfect piece without going too over the top!
Floral Dress
I don’t know if it is because it is called the Run for the Roses, but florals on Derby Day just make sense. I love a good floral number, and I think Derby is the perfect place to rock them. There are so many different types of floral dresses. Bright ones like this one, more neutral, and everything in between.
I pulled together a TON of floral dresses that would be perfect!
What do you plan on wearing to celebrate the Kentucky Derby?
