4th of July Wine Sparklers

07.01.19Brews & Bites3

Happy July! 4th of July is just a few short days away which means fireworks, picnics, boat days, and backyard bbq’s.

If you are anything like me – calling all non-crafty peeps – you see all of these intricate 4th of July food creations. From watermelon cutouts to American flag cakes. Now those all look so cool, and if you have the power to make those then invite me to y’all’s party. Every time I see something on Pinterest or Facebook, and I try it, it is a total fail. Everything out there takes so much time, effort, and skill. I want something that I can throw together quickly and still be patriotic and cute. Low and behold – the 4th of July Wine Sparklers. A refreshing, bubbly, and patriotic drink that will be a crowd pleaser. A cocktail with two ingredients, made right in the serving pitcher, with a cute fruit garnish for a little patriotic flair? I’ll take it!

The watermelon stars and the blueberries add those patriotic touches which makes it perfect for the 4th! I think that using a cookie cutter to make the watermelon stars makes it look very “pinterest-y”.

How to make watermelon stars

  1. Cut the watermelon in half: Place the watermelon on a cutting board. Use a chef’s knife to cut the watermelon in half.
  2. Flip the watermelon cut-side down: Working with one half of the watermelon at a time, flip the watermelon half cut-side down on the cutting board.
  3. Trim away the rind: Use a chef’s knife to cut away a slice of the rind, just down to the pink flesh. Continue making slices around the watermelon to remove all of the rind. Trim off any remaining bits of rind to leave just the edible portion of the watermelon.
  4. Cut the watermelon into 1/2 to 1-inch slices.
  5. Punch out stars with the cookie cutter: Separate the slices. Use a cookie cutter to cut the watermelon slices into stars.
  6. Repeat with the other half of the watermelon.

Picking the wine to use

When it comes to picking the white wine to use, I think a drier wine works better to off set the super sweetness of the lemon lime soda. I used a sauvignon blanc and it was so tasty.

Cheers, and a happy 4th of July. I’ll be toasting to all of you with my wine sparkler in hand. I hope you all have some great holiday plans!
