If there’s anything we realize as we grow older, it’s that our mothers deserve some major praise for raising us to be functioning members of society—and ones with good table manners too. While a nicely handwritten note or freshly baked cookies would do the trick this Mother’s Day, why not take it a step further. Grab your mama, and pack your suitcases because it’s time to go on a girls’ weekend. Check out my other Mother’s Day gift ideas here!
My mom is my travel buddy. We love traveling together, and have created some memories that will last a lifetime on our trips. She’s my mom, best friend, travel buddy, role model, partner in crime, the list goes on. We are so close so traveling together is a no brainer.
But, don’t get it twisted. We love each other, but some days (like many moms and daughters) we want to kill each other. So pleaseeeeee don’t read this and think we’re perfect. We just got lucky that we became best friends as well as mother & daughter.
I’ve rounded up 15 mother-daughter trip ideas to take with your mom. Whether walking along cobblestone streets or lounging on a breezy beach, listening to country music in an authentic honkytonk or filling your bellies with Cajun cuisine, you and your mom are guaranteed to have a fun time.
USA Destinations
New Orleans, LA
Yes I am bias because this used to be my home, BUTTTTT NOLA is such a fun town and I think it is perfect for any mother/daughter duo. If you and your mom like food, consider yourself foodies, or just like to eat in general, then New Orleans would be the perfect foodie weekend. The number one thing I miss about New Orleans is the food. I also have a recommendation list that is a mile long. There is so much to do in New Orleans that doesn’t involve Bourbon Street. Check out some my NOLA posts here, here, here, here and here!
Charleston, SC
If you are in need of some true southern charm, pack your bags and head to Charleston. Mom and I did a weekend trip here a few years ago, and it was just lovely. We spent a couple days in the city and a couple at the beach. Again the food is amazing (please eat as much she-crab soup as you possibly can!). Charleston is so quaint and cute. Highly recommend going over to one of the nearby beaches. We went to Sullivan’s island and loved it! I think I need a trip there soon so I can write a travel guide. Any takers??
Nashville, TN
The summer trip my mom and I plan on taking this summer (fingers crossed!). I have been to Nashville a few times and love it more each time I visit. Maybe I just need to move down there!? From the honky tonks on Broadway, to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville makes for a great long weekend trip. Especially if you and your momma are country music fans this is the destination for y’all! Pack up your cowgirl boots and head to Tennessee! Check out my Nashville travel guide here!
Austin, TX
Mom and I are heading to Austin for Memorial Day weekend and we are super excited because neither of us have been here yet. We hear it is full of good food, live music and a good time. From shopping in South Congress to sipping on a cocktail on 6th Street, this sounds right up our alley. There are so many cute boutiques and shops that this will be a perfect girl’s trip.
Chicago, IL
If you haven’t been to Chicago yet, this would be an amazing weekend trip for you and mom. Chicago offers so much, and you would have an action packed weekend. From taking the famous architecture boat tour, to trying deep dish pizza, to wandering down Michigan Ave – I can promise you will have a lovely time! Especially in the summertime. Nothing beats summertime chi!
Savannah, GA
Another southern gem and a city full of history. Savannah, GA was a great time. Can you tell my mom and I like to center our trips around food, because yet again this is another foodie destination. I have a whole travel guide here! I would also recommend taking a day or two to visit Tybee Island for some beach time. Be sure to enjoy a dinner at the Olde Pink House!
Palm Beach, FL
Mom’s and mine most recent girls trip was to Palm Beach. This was definitely a glam trip. We stayed at a pink palace, induldged in champagne, and lived like queens for a few days. From the pastel buildings, to blooming flowers, to thousands of palm trees, Palm Beach is great for a girls trip. This Florida town is full of charm and tranquility. Read my Palm Beach travel guide here!
Nantucket, MA
Nantucket is high on my list of places I want to visit in the US, and I think a mother/daughter trip would be the perfect occasion. An east coast nautical weekend getaway filled with lobster rolls? Sign me up!
Napa Valley, CA
For all wine lovers, Napa is clearly the choice for a mother/daughter getaway. Enjoying a weekend sipping on wines, nibbling on cheese, and catching up on all of the wisdom your momma has to offer. Wine and girls weekends just go hand in hand! Don’t you agree??
