Y’ALL! There are officially 12 days until Christmas! I can’t believe we are onto the final countdown! Get all those advent calendars ready because we are in full blown Christmas mode over here!
Between all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it can be hard to find time to slow down and actually relax and enjoy the season. But it’s no secret that the best — and possibly most nostalgia-inducing — way to spend a December night in is curled up with a holiday movie.
What better way to countdown to Christmas than with a holiday movie every night! I rounded up my favorite 12 holidays movies that were from when I was a kid. I try to watch all of these each season, and now that we are spending more time at home, it should be easy to get them all in! That is why I am making myself a schedule.
There are so many movies out there, and while I love a good Hallmark movie as much as the next person, there is something about the classic holiday movies that just bring back all of the memories! I stuck to the classics for this 12 days of Christmas movies!
12 Days of Christmas Movies
Elf
What better way to 1. spend a Monday night, and 2. kick off this countdown than with my favorite holiday movie Elf. I literally crack up each time I watch it, even though I have pretty much every word memorized. I remember seeing it for the first time in theaters, and watching it every year since!
Home Alone
Another classic to get you in the holiday mood. This has always been one to put you in a good mood! Not only am I bias because it takes place in Chicago, but this is a must watch before Christmas!
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
Growing up, this was always my favorite “classic” Christmas cartoon. I would wait and wait until they aired it on TV and then when the big day came I would bundle up in my favorite Christmas jammies, grab a cup of hot chocolate and get ready to watch my favorite reindeer!
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
This was also a big night in the Bakkum household when “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” was going to be on TV. We had a tradition where we would always eat pizza under the Christmas tree and watch a Christmas movie. I think I will order pizza this night and curl up with this oldie, but goodie!
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Now this one is a little controversial. I am team OG cartoon, but I know there are the Jim Carey fans out there. So for this day, I will leave it up to you, whether you stick with the cartoon or Jim Carey version. Personally Cindy Lou Who is my Christmas spirit animal, and I love her so much – ever since I was a little girl. Mostly because I think she is blonde, wore a pink dress and has big eyes like me!
Frosty The Snowman
Another oldie made it onto this list. I mean nothing against Olaf, but Frosty it the original snowman and holds a very special place in my heart. This movie is just adorable and would be perfect to watch on a snowy night!
The Year Without A Santa Claus
OK the LAST old Christmas cartoon, but is it really Christmastime if you don’t watch all of these classics?! I feel like this one sometimes gets overlooked next to the other old time classics! But low and behold this one is a goodie that should be watched once each holiday season!
National Lampoon’s: Christmas Vacation
When thinking of a family Christmas holiday, you automatically think of the Griswold Family. With all that Clark Griswold goes through during the Christmas season, he is always relatable in one way or another. This one is bound to give you a laugh or two!
Santa Claus
If you really want to commit, make it a marathon and watch all 3 movies that is the way to do it! I think the first one is the best for obvious reasons, but I think the whole “Santa Claus” franchise is pretty solid. There is really not a bad movie in the bunch!
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Who doesn’t love Charlie Brown? I personally watch each one depending on the holiday, but Christmas might be my favorite one of them all! It is so nostalgic watching this one and is a great reminder of the real reason for Christmas!
Christmas With The Kranks
Growing up, my brother and I would watch “Christmas With The Kranks” at least 4 times each December. We would always just belly laugh and it was one movie we would always agree on. Don’t worry I will definitely be grabbing him and making him watch this one with me this year for the sake of old times!
Christmas Story
With this movie being played for 24 hours on Christmas Day, there is really no reason to not watch this one! It is such a good movie, and never gets old even after watching it year after year!
What is your favorite classic Christmas movie?
