10 Reasons Why You Should Plan a Trip With Your Mom Every Year

06.08.20Travel5

The number one thing I thank my mom for giving me is her love of travel. My mom and I both have the travel bug, and anytime we get to travel we do. Ever since I graduated high school, we plan a trip for just the two of us every year. It is some of my favorite memories!

We have been all over the country and world together. This weekend we are taking a social distancing vacation to Savannah, Georgia! We were supposed to have a BIG trip in June, but it had to be cancelled. But we are both excited to soak up some sun, southern hospitality, and eat our way through Savannah!

The memories I make with my mom traveling are ones I will cherish forever. Of course I know our trips are not perfect. I.E. getting in an argument on a bridge in Paris and walking the complete opposite way from each other. Or getting irritated that I have to read the map because she needs her readers. Or her getting irritated that I need her to take just one more picture to see if it is “the one”.

But we also have some of the best memories. I.E. getting chocolate massages in Nicaragua and having the water go out at the spa so we sat in the sun baked in chocolate for 2 hours until the plumber came out. Or getting tipsy in the champagne houses together in Reims, France sipping on expensive bubbly that we could not afford to buy in the states. Or traveling around London in the smallest smart car with the British flag printed all over it while people cheer, wave, and take pictures of us.

  • Chocolate massages in Nicaragua gone wrong!
  • Enjoying our tours of the Taittinger Champagne house a little too much!
  • Our Twizy car during our London tour!

Now I LOVE traveling with Mitch! We are excited to see the world together and experience all we can! It is just a different kind of trip when you travel with your mom. We don’t mind shopping and wandering and eating all day. Unlike Mitch, who needs some action activities. They are both great kinds of trips, I just like having a mixture of both! One day we will all go on a trip together and stay tuned for that because that will be one crazy fun vacation!

She’ll do all the research and booking for your trip. It’s like a travel agent and you pay her in love! My mom and I both like planning trips, but I will say she does majority of the work when it is just the two of us! She is the best trip planner EVER!

You’ll both be out of your comfort zones. My mom and I have been in some weird situations together while traveling. Whether it be the strangest places to go to the bathroom, old men in speedos, or 40-foot cliff jumping, at some point you will be out of your comfort zone. It is part of the fun!

You’ll learn more about each other. This is one I love. My mom took me on a trip to Europe after I graduated high school, and it was so fun to learn about her in a more adult light. Now that I am an adult, I think we have more fun and learn things about each other that we never knew each trip!

You’ll both get to cross off bucket list items. My mom and I have been fortunate enough to cross off a lot of bucket list items together. Whether that be experiencing Machu Picchu, swimming with manta ray, or going on an African safari. I am excited to see what else we can cross off together!

She won’t get offended when you’re hangry. In fact, she knows the warning signs and will cut you off with a stop for a snack as soon as she notices them. Depending on how bad you get, she might even carry some in her purse.

She knows what you like and hate as well as you know yourself. She’ll only suggest activities and restaurants she knows you’ll both enjoy. That said…

She’ll take you to activities you wouldn’t have picked otherwise. You would literally never choose yourself to go on that cemetery tour, but it ended up being super cool.

You’ll be able to introduce her to things she wouldn’t have picked otherwise. She’d never choose to wait 40 minutes for the best, most Instagrammable dessert in the city you’re visiting. But once you’re eating, she’ll admit it was worth it.

You won’t come back with any vacation purchases you regret. Your sensible mom will talk you out of buying that white Grecian dress that fits the Greek Islands perfectly, but then knows you won’t wear it at home. Just speaking from experience, I still have that dress and have never worn it!

You’ll Create Special Memories to Last a Lifetime. My mom is my best friend, and I know our favorite memories with each other happen when we travel together. I can’t wait to see where in the world we tackle next mom!

Where is your favorite place to travel with your mom?
